Astrologers do not agree on when the Age of Aquarius will start or even if it has already started. There are many theories on this. My theory is that we are in something called the Age of Procrastination. The moon and the stars have aligned to an era where we have so many different entertainment tools at our disposal, that we cannot start any important tasks we need to complete. We can however check Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, create some amazing Snapchat pictures and stories, binge watch an entire season of a show in a day.
I do not have time to walk to work which is located two kilometres from my home. I’m too tired in the morning because I’m always just so busy. Of course I am. I lay in my bed scrolling through Instagram when I wake up. After half an hour of this, I jump out of bed and quickly shower, just body, not hair. Too busy to wash both. I then make a coffee and eat my breakfast. Whilst scoffing these down, I sit and check out Twitter and find myself falling into a vortex of stories on the current international political climate, reality tv, etc. Shit, I’m running late. Have to quickly jump in my car, no time to walk.
I apparently do not have time to:
- clean out my closet
- hang professional shots we had taken of my daughter when she was one (currently now three and a half)
- sort through my pile of bills/letters/junk on my desk
- tend to garden maintenance
- read a book
Apparently though, I do have time to:
- watch every Real Housewives franchise
- become engrossed in many Netflix shows
- browse every form of social media multiple times daily
- partake in much online shopping/browsing
Last Sunday we had a few people over until late. After everyone left I put on a dishwasher load and went to bed leaving the bulk of the clean up for the next day, seeing that it was a public holiday. I woke up the next morning and had a nice relaxing breakfast and coffee. I was about to start the big clean and thought, I might just watch an episode of the great new show I’d heard about, Big Little Lies. So I watched an episode. It was great. It was still early, so I watched another episode. Enjoyable. Hhhmmm, I probably have time for just one more. This finished and I thought to myself, “I’m three episodes in, there’s only seven. Let’s take this baby home”. So I watched all seven episodes in one seating. Great job. Very impressed with my accomplishment. Oh yeah, that’s right. Isn’t there that cleaning I need to get done? Yes, yes there is. So what did I do? I cleaned up for the next two hours. Then I woke up tired the next day for work. Geez, I really can’y understand why?
All these entertainment tools that are at our fingertips these days bring procrastination to a whole new level. I miss the days when the only thing that I could use as my procrastination tool was a crappy tv show or a nap. Now I have so many forms of distraction, procrastination is becoming a full time job. In fact, I can pretty much say that in the time it took me to type this, I checked and replied to twenty six messages, had a quick scan of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and bought a pair of shoes online. I wanted to have this posted on Friday. Clearly it’s Sunday now. I’m just waaay too busy.
